Sir Guru Maharaji!!!

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola stormed Mapo Hall, Ibadan for the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadan.
Going by the dignitaries present at the coronation of Olubadan of Ibadanland, the question on the lips of many indigenes of Ibadan present at the ceremony was, “Has any Olubadan been this honoured?”
The roll call of governors, traditional rulers, legislators, which included Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III; Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose; Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha; Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode; showcased a historic coronation.
In his address, host governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi remarked that the choice of Oba Adetunji was customary, traditional and legal without any legal encumbrance.

While commending the Ibadan traditional system as worthy of emulation, he said an overhaul was due so as to enhance the dignity and respect of the Obaship system.
Ajimobi emphasised that the state government would set in motion a process aimed at reviewing the chieftaincy laws as well as bring about a complete overhaul of the Ibadan traditional institution.
Ajimobi specially rendered prayers for long life, sound health of mind and body for Oba Adetunji. He further harped on the need for the new Olubadan to be above board, a rallying point and shun partisan politics.
Adding, Ajimobi identified royalty coupled with service as important for a successful reign of Oba Adetunji.
Ajimobi subsequently presented the staff and certificate of office to Oba Saliu Akanmu Olasupo Adetunji as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“The present administration under my leadership is set to review the chieftaincy declaration of some titles and as the Chiefs Law Cap 28 Volume 1 OYSLN 2000 is meant to enhance the dignity and respect of our royal fathers. We are set to be a model to others and to this end, we will carry out a complete overhaul of the institution of Chieftaincy in this State with a view to ensuring speedy conclusion of appointment to chieftaincy titles based on the true custom of our people. We will also review the status of Obas and Chiefs with a view to also insulate them from partisan politics more so that they are expected to be the father of all.”
“As revered custodian of our culture, customs and traditions, the Obas are expected to be above board and be a rallying point to all citizenry of their towns and cities. We pray that the Kabiyesi lives long. Kabiyesi, the test of your acceptability is even wider with respect to your new position. You will need to remember always that you stand at the head of an enlightened and articulate community and that you are faced with the task of building a new society on a celebrated pedestal of a distinguished predecessor. You must always consider your royal self as the king of the throne of a city upon hills, the eyes of all people are upon you.”
Oba Adetunji, in his remarks, noted that the Ibadan traditional system was such that one required long life to emerge as Olubadan.

Oba Adetunji, aged 87 years, said this was exemplified in the fact that he began to climb the chieftaincy ladder in 1976 and emerged Olubadan about 40 years after.
Like his predecessor, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, he prayed that Ibadan becomes a state.
“I thank God for long life. To get to this position of Olubadan, one needs long life. I started to climb this chieftaincy ladder in 1976, that is about 40 years ago. In fact, that was at about the time the Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III became the Alaafin of Oyo. Especially, I call on government to recognise Ibadan as a state on its own. I thank all chiefs and members of the Olubadan-in-Council for their support till I assumed this position as Olubadan.”
