The Osasu Show Foundation to feed 1000 IDPs, orphans today in Abuja

The Osasu Show Foundation, a Non-Government Organization focused on improving the welfare and livelihood of the women and children through capacity building, education scholarships and start-up capital, will on Saturday, December 16th, 2017, host a Christmas party for over 1000 Internally Displaced Persons and Orphans at the Riverplate Park, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The event is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative of The Osasu Show. It aims to bring sunshine into the lives of the less privileged this yuletide season. The founder of The Osasu Show Foundation, Ms. Osasu Igbinedion, expressed her delight at being able to make the less privileged smile during this festive period.

She said, "Anytime I visit IDPs’ Camps, I leave with a heavy heart as most of them are going through very difficult situations. Although we've sent numerous girls to school from across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria and empowered over 200 women with capital to begin small to medium scale businesses, my team and I decided to also celebrate them and make them forget their sorrows, especially while others are celebrating Christmas and the New Year around them. This is why we have decided to throw a party for one thousand IDPs and orphans. We hope to do more in the nearest future.”

The Osasu Show Foundation was inspired by the vital roles women play around the world, meeting the food needs of their households and contributing to the development and growth of the nation at large.

Part of the ways the foundation is helping include the donation of Capacity Building Incubators (CBI), Education Scholarship Scheme (ESS), Group Micro Loan (GML), Group Funding Initiative (GFI),Integrated Empowerment Project (IEP) and TOS/ASDC- Annual Social Development Conference.

The Osasu Show Foundation is created for the sole purpose of solving social problems in a financially self-sustainable way.

OPC June 12 Lecture:Notable Nigerians Insist On Restructuring

Notable Nigerians, Including
former governors of Abia and Lagos States,
Orji Uzor Kalu and Rear
Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd ), Otunba Gani Adams, Professor Sophie
Oluwole, Dr Mrs Joe Okei – Odumakin Comrade Tony Uranta and others have used the
2017 anniversary of the June 12 1993 election to call for restructuring of
Nigeria .

The former governors and others ,
while speaking during the commemoration
programme , organized by the Oodua People’ s Congress to mark the 24th
anniversary of the June 12 elections
also expressed the great need
immortalize the winner of the election , Late Bashorun MKO Abiola .

Former Abia State governor , Orji
Uzor Kalu , who was the chairman of the event , which took place at Excellence
Hotel , Ogba , described June 12 as “ a
symbol of democracy for the people of Nigeria irrespective of the ethnic group “

The former governor also said
that “ Democracy Day should have been
June 12 and not May 29 , which was wrongly chosen by those , who did not work
for the democracy .”

Former governor Kalu also stated
that June 12 symbolizes equity fairness and obedience to the rule of law .
These are the things the late Abiola died for . He wanted us to obey the rule
of law in the country .”

Also former military governor of
Lagos State, Rear Admiral Ndubuizi
Kanu , while making his remark at the occasion called on the federal government
to consider the calls for restructuring
as a way of moving Nigeria forward .

The former Lagos State governor said
“ if we fail to restructure Nigeria
peacefully , we may have to do it the other way “

National coordinator of the Oodua
People’ s Congress , Otunba Gani Adams in his welcome address at the occasion
decried the abandonment of June 12 by other regions in the country , apart from
the South West

The OPC chief said “ It is indeed
sad that apart from the Southwest states of Oyo, Ogun, Lagos and Osun, which
have doggedly continued to celebrate the hero, and later martyr of that battle,
Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, there has been studied
indifference to the June 12 phenomenon by the Federal Government and
remarkably, the rest of Nigeria.”

He also pointed out that “ This is
sadder still because the leader of that battle, MKO Abiola was not an ethnic
champion: he was a man of pan-Nigerian vision and ambition, who went into
politics to give the people hope, to unite them and lead them out of poverty.
His campaign manifesto was instructively titled “Hope 93 — Farewell to Poverty:
How to make Nigeria a better place for all.”

Adams averred that “ This is why I believe that if
any date is deserving of celebration, it is June 12. The Federal Government of
Nigeria, should as a matter of honour to the late politician and business
mogul, Abiola, who fought and died for the current democracy, make June 12 of
every year, a national holiday.”

The OPC chief posited that “ Certainly,
we are still far from Promised Land. For a country of so many ethnic
nationalities, all yearning and craving for growth and development, their own
way, the best that can be bequeathed onto the people is true federalism. And we
shall continue to drum it in the ears of relevant authorities that no nation
develops optimally when they hold themselves down to others for equal growth.”

“ Every nationality has to be given
the needed encouragement to grow at its own pace. This was the system handed
down to us by our founding fathers immediately after independence. This is the
sure way to live together in peace and harmony. It is a path we have to tread
to assuage all bruised nerves and give succour to the eternally deprived
nations in Nigeria.” Adams added

The guest speaker at at the occasion, Dr Chidozie Okoro of the
department of Philosophy , University of Lagos , described June 12 as “ a symbol of freedom for Nigeria “

The university don also said that “
now is the time to restructure Nigeria . The restructuring of Nigeria should be
speedily and ultimately pursued “

Dr Mrs Joe
Okei – Odumakin said “ the ideals of
June 12 still live . We must imbibe them .. The federal government must speak
the change and act the change by declaring June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria

Okei –Odumakin
also called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency post - humously
declare Abiola as the winner and that “
Nigeria must be restructured “

Sophie Oluwole blamed the problem in
Nigeria on the leadership of the Nigeria , which according to her , had prevented the experienced
right persons from leading the country .

Other dignitaries
at the event , who spoke on the need to restructure Nigeria include: Comrade
Debo Adeniran , Comrade Joseph Evah , Professor Banji Akintoye , Comrade Tony
Uranta, Muhammed Kudu – Abubakar amongst

Freed Chibok Girls Having Medical Check-up In Aso Rock

The 82 Chibok girls freed from Boko Haram captivity on Saturday are undergoing series of medical check-ups in Aso Rock, Abuja.

Chibok girl comes back with leg amputated

One of the Chibok schoolgirls released by Boko Haram on Saturday returned with a leg amputated, The Guardian has learnt.

The unnamed girl was among the 82 girls taken from Banki, a town on the border with Cameroon, to Abuja, where they were taken to a Department of State Services clinic.

"Two [of the girls] have injuries," said, the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, who received the girls at the Abuja airport.

"One has hand injury, the other has a leg injury." He was quick to point out that the amputation had nothing to do with the "rescue" operation, which he said was carried out"professionally, without any hitch."

The director of medicals, DSS Clinic, Anne Okoroafor, assured that the girls would be given adequate medical care.

The 82 girls were among the 276 female students kidnapped by Boko Haram from the Government Girls Secondary School on April 14, 2014. Fifty-seven of the girls escaped while being taken away and three others were found or rescued by the military.

On October 13, 2016, 21 girls were freed after the Swiss government and international Committee of Red Cross brokered a deal between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government.

The Nigerian government said in April it was collaborating with “foreign entities” to negotiate for the release of the remaining girls.

“Talks are ongoing through other means with the help of some foreign entities to free more schoolgirls,” presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said during an interview with BBC Hausa.

“These talks are going on with the help of some countries. You can recall the 21 schoolgirls were freed with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Swiss government officials who got involved in the negotiations. These two have not withdrawn their support in the negotiations,” Shehu said.

“There are also other countries that are lending support to the negotiations by being involved in the talks,” Shehu added.

Update: Freed Chibok girls to meet President Muhammadu Buhari after swap deal

82 of the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped in northeast Nigeria in 2014 today headed to meet President Muhammadu Buhari after a prisoner swap deal with Boko Haram secured their release.

The presidency announced late on Saturday that months of talks with the jihadists had "yielded results" some six months after 21 of their classmates were freed with the help of international mediators. "Today 82 more Chibok girls were released," a statement said. "After lengthy negotiations, our security agencies have taken back these girls, in exchange for some Boko Haram suspects held by the authorities."

No details were given about how many suspects were released or their identities. But AFP understands three Chadian nationals, allegedly senior commanders under Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, were handed over. Military and civilian militia sources in the town of Banki, on the border with Cameroon, said the girls left for Borno state capital Maiduguri on board six military helicopters at 6:10 am (0510 GMT).

"One of the girls was carrying a baby with her, a boy of less than two years," said the source on condition of anonymity. The presidency said the teenagers would be brought to Abuja to meet Buhari, who was swept to power on a promise to defeat Boko Haram, whose insurgency has killed at least 20,000 people in Nigeria since 2009.

Shehu Sani, a Nigerian senator who has been involved in previous negotiations, said the talks lasted for "three to four months". The government would now look to secure the release of the remaining hostages, he added.

Boko Haram fighters stormed the Government Girls Secondary School in the remote town of Chibok on the evening of April 14, 2014 and kidnapped 276 teenaged girls who were preparing to sit high school exams. 57 managed to escape in the hours that followed but the remaining 219 were held by the group. Boko Haram's Shekau claimed in a video message that they had converted to Islam.

The audacious kidnapping brought the insurgency to world attention, triggering global outrage that galvanised support from the former US first lady Michelle Obama and Hollywood stars. The girls have become a symbol of the conflict. In April, parents and supporters marked the three-year anniversary of the abduction, describing the situation as an unending "nightmare". But they said previous releases had given them strength.

Enoch Mark, a Christian pastor whose two daughters were among those kidnapped, said of the latest releases: "This is good news to us. We have been waiting for this day. "We hope the remaining girls will soon be released." Patrick Yousef, the deputy regional director for Africa at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), confirmed the group "facilitated the safe return" of the girls as a "neutral intermediary". The Swiss government was also involved, Nigeria said.

Military and civilian militia sources in Banki said the girls were brought back to the town in ICRC vehicles late on Saturday afternoon and stayed in the military barracks there overnight. Boko Haram has used kidnapping as a weapon of war, seizing thousands of women and children, and forcibly recruiting young men and boys into their ranks.

In a less publicised attack in November 2014, some 300 children were among about 500 people kidnapped from the town of Damasak, on the border with Niger, in the far north of Borno state. The release of the 21 girls in October 2016 followed talks between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government brokered by the ICRC and the Swiss.

Three other girls have also been found. The first had a baby and was accompanied by a man she said was her husband but the military said was a Boko Haram suspect. Shekau has previously said the girls would be released if militant fighters held in government custody were freed. When the 21 were freed, Buhari's spokesman Garba Shehu said the government was hoping to secure the release of 83 others being held by a different Boko Haram faction. A total of 113 Chibok girls are now missing, although Shekau claimed in August 2016 that some had been killed in military air strikes.

Parenting: What Am I Doing to My Kid When I Yell?

With the exception of coaches and political radio jocks, being a parent is one of the few occupations where yelling feels mandatory. The question isn’t why parents yell — there are myriad reasons —  but what effect it’s having on children. And the growing scientific consensus is that yelling or scolding makes them more aggressive, more anxious.
