Earlier today, hundreds of Boko Haram Islamists were said to have invaded the city of Gombe, firing heavy guns. However, AFP reports that some of the locals made it known that the insurgents threw leaflets at them. Leaflets with writings that suggest that they should not vote, come the March and April elections.
Vanguard reports that the presidency is in a fix concerning four of its governors who are working secretly for the opposition party. This came to the notice of the president when some of the activities of these four governors were reviewed and checked.
It was made known that even the campaign strategies of these four governors in their states are all geared towards bringing the opposition party to power, which clearly indicates that the Peoples Democratic party will lose in the four states come March and April.
According to an authoritative source, both President Jonathan and the PDP are angry about this new development, which they are calling an act of betrayal. The party does not, however, know how to deal with the four governors for hiding under the umbrella of the PDP to work for the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress. The constitution does not allow them to be dealt with since they are still in the party.
President Goodluck Jonathan has promised that the nation’s security forces would completely wipe out members of the violent Boko Haram sect from Adamawa and Yobe states before the March 28 and April 11 rescheduled dates of general elections.

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have clashed at a peace meeting organized by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 11, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye in Osun State.
The peace accord which was meant to ensure that violence-free elections hold in the state, had in attendance leaders of various political parties.
At the meeting, the AIG appealed to politicians and other residents in the state to assist the police and other security agencies to ensure a violence-free poll in the state.
Things however fell apart when the two parties expressed sharp disagreements over members of which political party were responsible for the series of attacks on the opponents in the state.
Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, accused a PDP leader of sponsoring thugs to attack the APC members and detaining them at his residence in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking with UK’s Channel 4 correspondent, the woman said that the children were not harmed but were forced to cook for the militants. Monica who tried to support the girls added that they were tearful and wanted to come back home.
Monica was kidnapped from Kiva in the course of a dire Boko Haram attack. She has recently arrived to a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) located near Abuja.

HOW IMO GOV.OKOROCHA LIED TO NIGERIANS
Before the Council of State meeting, the position of the president, and that of the ruling party, PDP, was that the elections should be postponed. The argument was that by virtue of Section 132 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, there was time to make adjustment. The Section provides that “an election to the said office (presidency) shall be held on a date not earlier than one hundred and fifty days and not later than thirty days before the expiration of the term of the last holder of that office.” That was the subtext to the Council of State meeting.

Possible resignation of the incumbent INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and his replacement with Prof. Nazim Mimiko has been a topic of heated discussion in the past few days. Many Nigerians consider this to be a “political trick” that Goodluck Jonathan uses to ensure his reelection, along with the elections’ postponement.
However, Prof. Jega’s resignation may have legal grounds. Nigerian lawyer, blogger, African Herald Express contributor Aloy Ejimakor, via his Facebook page, gives some explanation as to why Jega’s possible resignation in March would not breach any Nigerian law.
The Yoruba socio-political group, in a statement issued on Monday, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to reciprocate the patriotism shown by Nigerians by resigning from office. The statement said Nigerians had made sacrifices without a commensurate effort from the leadership, as if citizens signed a master-slave contract with their leaders.
The statement signed by Kunle Famoriyo, the group’s publicity secretary, reads in full:
The lawmakers of the House of Representatives vowed to prevent the sack of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Attahiru Jega.
After Jega’s announcement of the elections postponement on February 7, rumours started circulating that the federal government were plotting to remove Jega from his current position.
It was alleged that Jonathan was not happy with Jega’s post-announcement speech, feeling that the speech had negatively affected the credibility of the presidency and of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
