The Third Matriculation Ceremony of 75 students into the 2013/2014 NCE programme of Royal City College of Education owned by the eloquent speaking Bishop (Dr.) Tom Samson took place recently in Monarch Hall, a tastefully furnished air conditioned auditorium of the college situated at Iyesi Ota in Ogun State.
In attendance were members of different community development associations of Iyesi Ota, Parents, guardians, sponsors of the matriculating students, well-wishers, elders of Christ Royal Family Church, registrars, provosts and rectors of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Ogun State, Chief Magistrate of Sagamu High Court, Dr. YinkaOjo and members of the fourth estate realm.
The provost in his short speech applauded the vision of the founder, Bishop (Dr.) Tom Samson in embarking on such a programme. According to him, investment on teacher education may not be profitable but should be seen as a great sacrifice which gains is more than is more the financial profit but in the end the reward is more abundant.
To the matriculating students, the provost charged them to be steadfast in their academic pursuit because the beginning is not the point to celebrate as the road to success is not usually smooth but with perseverance, hard work and commitment success is guaranteed. He sighted his own example that he started as an NCE student and to day he is a PhD holder in education.
The Bale of Iyesi Ota High Chief Abdul-FatayiAgbebiyi in his speech showered encomium and prayers on Christ Royal Family Church and the founder, Bishop Samson for establishing such an institution in his community. To the matriculating students he admonished them not let the investment of their parents and guardians on them be in vain. He further stressed that they should be hard working and not indulge or promote negative activities.
The visionary, Bishop (Dr.) Tom Samson in his speech appreciated the presence of the royal fathers, the lecturers, parents, guardians and sponsors for their confidence in the institutions.
He further explained why he established a college of education. In his words, he said that he graduated as an educationist from an institution where cultism was highly prevalent and even today there is a high level of decadence among teachers, therefore the need to have an institution where spiritual discipline and academic excellence is emphasized.
Speaking further, he admonished the lecturers that they should continue to maintain the fear of God in their assignment. He further explained that whatever knowledge a person acquires without the fear of God is nothing.
Speaking to the matriculating students, Bishop Samson advised them to shun cultism and any act that will tarnish the good image of the institution, as the ripple effect of any bad report will further bounce on his person and the ministry.
He reminded the new intakes that two students were denied matriculating and expelled for bad conduct.
