Otunba Gbenga Daniel formally dumps PDP for Labour Party

“This is the first time that I’m appearing in political environment since 2011. I want to tell you today that Labour Party is the right party.”
A former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, on Saturday formally dumped Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the Labour Party.
Mr. Daniel said his new party will displace the present All Progressives
Congress, APC, administration in Ogun come 2015.

The former governor spoke when he appeared at the commissioning of the state headquarters of the Labour Party, located at Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, where he publicly addressed his loyalists and party supporters.

The former PDP chieftain was accompanied by the National Chairman of Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu, Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, and other national officers of the party.
He said he joined the party because it is labour friendly.
Mr. Daniel, however, declared that the Ogun Labour Party under his leadership would work for the return of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015; while all hands would be on deck to take over Ogun State from the ruling APC.
“This is the first time that I’m appearing in political environment since 2011. I want to tell you today that Labour Party is the right party. I want to publicly tell you today that we have given birth to a reliable baby today.
“I, Ogidi omo, is telling you today that Labour Party is the right path. Go and tell the world that Labour Party has come to stay. I think you can now see clearly which party I now belong to,” he said.
Mr. Daniel, who ruled Ogun for eight years, accused the incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun, of cheating the state through execution of road projects at exorbitant cost.
He said the way Mr. Amosun was running the state, he would plunge the state into eternal debt.
Also at the occasion, the two factions of the Labour Party resolved their
dispute. The factional chairman opposed to the Daniel group, Simeon Olabode, publicly accepted the new state executive of the party led by Niyi Osoba.
Mr. Daniel also introduced five members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who joined him in the Labour Party. They include John Obafemi (formerly of PPN), Remmy Hazzan (formerly of APC), Joseph Adegbesan (formerly of PPN), Obafemi Olowo-Oloja (formerly of APC) and Salmon Adeleke (formerly of PPN).

Ishola, and Sina Kawonise, as well as other aspirants for other various elective positions were also at the event.
In his remark, the National Chairman of the party, Dan Nwanyanwu, said the party is indivisible in the state. He said those aggrieved in the party have re-committed themselves to its progress and success in 2015.
The Ondo State Governor, Mr. Mimiko, said the era of factionalisation had ended in the Ogun Labour Party.
He said all members have agreed to work in harmony to unseat the APC
administration.
Mr. Mimiko criticised the APC for allegedly introducing unfriendly policies and programmes in the South West, saying the Labour Party was determined to wrest power from it in 2015.
