Jonathan urges universities to seek alternative ways of funding

President Goodluck Jonathan has stated that the federal government alone would not be able to fully fund all the universities in the country.

He, therefore, urged university authorities to seek enhanced funding through partnership with relevant agencies, foreign donors and organizations to augment the funding by government.

President Jonathan spoke weekend in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, at the 20th convocation ceremony and silver jubilee anniversary of the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, FUAM.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Macjohn Nwaobiala, he said, “government alone cannot fully fund all the universities in the country. I urge the various universities to partner foreign donors and also embark on activities that would enhance their funding.”
