DISASTER MANAGEMENT: NSCDC TRAINS 15,000 PERSONEL


  SYNERGISE WITH NASRDA TO TACKLE VANDALISM.


The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps[NSCDC], Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, says that 15,000 Officers and Men of the Corps has been trained nationally and internationally in rapid response, disaster mitigation, early warning signal alert system, rehabilitation of victims of both natural and man-made disasters.  

Gana noted, that as a critical stakeholder in disaster prevention, mitigation and management that the Corps has deployed 5,000 personnel to the North-East to protect the IDP camps, and to re-occupy the re-claimed Towns and Villages by the Military,  in line with the Corps statutory mandate on disaster management.
The CG who received the Director General of National Space Research Development Agency[NASRDA], Professor Seidu Mohammed, at the Corps National Headquarters, Abuja, maintained that the request for synergy between the two Agencies is in order. 

The DG NASRDA in his remarks, highlighted that, he has come to the NSCDC to intimate the Commandant General of the activities of his organization and to seek ways and means of synergy  between the two organizations for national security and development.
After taking a look at the NSCDC Command and Control Centre, the Director General  was very impressed with what he saw at the centre, and called for the setting up of a committee of NSCDC and NASRDA for the purpose of protection of Critical Infrastructures and other National Assets using the satellites at NASRDA Space Centre.
He also called for capacity building of the staff of the two organizations to form a formidable team of Research and Development committee that will be stationed all over the federation for monitoring, managing and preventing vandals from carrying out their dastard acts, especially on oil pipelines, Critical Infrastructure and National Assets.
The NASRDA Boss posited that his organization is ready to assist with all the technologies needed for this purpose, especially the satellite imageries, maps and other technological logistics to facilitate this collaboration between NSCDC and NASRDA.

The Commandant General thanked the DG for his visit, and sought for assistance in the establishment of another Command Control Centre to monitor activities in the North East for prompt intervention whenever necessary.
