As part of his activities for the festive season, Akinwunmi Ambode, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progresive Congress (APC) paid a visit to the Gbagada General Hospital on December 24, 2014. He was received by the Chief Medical director of the hospital, Dr. Idowu Adekunle Dada, other Principal Officers and management staff of the hospital.
Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode said he chose to visit the hospital since they were his neighbours as his campaign office is situated very close to the hospital in Gbagada. He was delighted to be present at the hospital to "show solidarity" with the staff in the spirit of the season and gave out gifts to the management and staff of the hospital.
The APC gubernatorial candidate said the present government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Babatunde Fashola(SAN), had done well in upgrading the hospitals in the state and stated his desire to continue with this trend if elected as the next governor of Lagos state. He shared his interest in improving the quality of health services in the hospital and in Lagos generally saying "God giving me the grace, I will continue in the tradition of upgrading our hospitals in Lagos. It is a must for us to have first class health service delivery in this state of ours".
The governorship candidate moved on to commend the selflessness and commitment with which health workers discharge their duties even when the environment does not provide them the best platform to perform. He promised that it is such selfless and committed service that he would give to Lagos state as Governor.
In his response, Dr. Dauda thanked Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for the visit, stating that this was the first time a Governorship candidate visited the hospital in the spirit of the season. He stated that the hospital management as a whole are "ready to work with and work for" him to ensure the continuity of good governance in the state.
Mr. Ambode and the principal officers of the hospital discussed how the services of the hospital can be improved with the objective of ensuring that quality healthcare is delivered in Lagos and that people would no longer need to go abroad for medical treatment.
The Principal Officers of the hospital that received the Mr. Ambode included the deputy Chief Medical Director, Dr. Keshinro, the Head of Physiotherapy department and Director of the Welfare Committee, Mrs. Akinla, the Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Babafemi, the Assistant Apex/Chief Matron, Mrs. Oginni,the Head of Accounts, Mrs. Agora, the Head of Administration, Mr. O. R. Ajiboye, the Head of Physiotherapy department and Director of the Welfare Committee, Mrs. Akinla, the Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Babafemi, the Assistant Apex/Chief Matron, Mrs. Oginni, the Secretary of the Welfare committee, Mr. Babalola, the Head of the Catering Section, Mrs. Adesulire, and all other staff of the hospital.
