PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED TRAINEES WED AT REHABILITATION CENTRE IN LAGOS

Two physically and mentally challenged Trainees of the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with disabilities at Owutu were joined in matrimony at the Centre in Ikorodu.

The wedding of the Couple, Samiat Abiola, a 20 year old indigent of the Centre with no known relative who had been under “Care and Protection” for over 10 years by the State Government while the groom, Dare Akinyemi, an ex-trainee, age 42 years was witnessed by members of the Grooms family and Officials of the Office of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State.

Simiat has a low intelligence quotient (IQ) and cannot write her name despite several years of Coaching while Akinyemi has an extremely low IQ and speech impairment but had improved after a lot of mentoring at the Centre and had undergone Vocational training in Shoe making at the Centre, hence, he would be able to fend for his wife.

The bride was given out in marriage by the Director, Rehabilitation, Mr. Olabode Ajao through a traditional wedding Ceremony and an inter denominational Church Service.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Social Development, Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru who was represented by Mr. Olanrewaju Rufai, Director, Finance and Administration charged the grooms family and members of the Society to assist the State Government in re- integrating the Couple into the Society so that they could adapt to a new life of marriage and family. He also charged the husband to take care of his wife as the State Government and trained and empowered him in the vocation of Shoe making while wishing them a happy married life.
