The planned political rally by a group within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ibadan Oyo State, today to drum up support for the second term bid of the President Goodluck Jonathan might have suffered a setback yesterday as Ekiti State chapter of PDP dissociated itself with the rally.
The Ekiti PDP, in a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, in Ado-Ekiti, said the planned rally/meeting did not have the blessing of the leadership of the party in the Southwest geo-political zone.
According to the statement, “Therefore, we are calling on the leaders and members of our party in Ekiti State to shun the particular rally slated by the organiser for tomorrow, Saturday August 23, 2014 in Ibadan.
We the entire leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State hereby declare that we are totally and unreservedly committed to the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his second term agenda because of his outstanding performance.
“However, we are dissociating ourselves from the so-called proposed meeting/rally in support of President Jonathan’s second term ambition because the planned meeting/ rally has not received the consent or blessings of leaders of the PDP in South-West,” the party said.
The Ekiti PDP noted that it was opting out of the event because the planners only wanted to use the opportunity to achieve cheap political gain.
