Robbers were arrested in Lagos after shoot out with the police in Ogun State

Two robbery suspects were at the weekend arrested in a hospital in Lagos State while receiving treatment for bullet wounds sustained during an encounter with the police in neighbouring Ogun State.

The confrontation occurred at Ogijo Town, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state. During the shootout, one of the robbers was shot dead, while two others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The robbers also stole the rifle of one of the injured police officers. The gun was later recovered.

The Public Relations Officer for Ogun State police, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the bandits were arrested in a hospital in Lagos.

“The aggressive investigation instituted by the commissioner of police, Ikemefuna Okoye, into the incident that occurred at Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State led to the discovery and arrest of these suspects on Saturday around 7am while they were receiving treatment in a Lagos Hospital,” Mr. Adejobi said.

“The armed robbers had engaged the police in a gun duel on Thursday in Ogijo and this left one of the robbers dead. The hoodlums took away a police rifle from an injured police corporal but it was immediately recovered with additional three locally made pistols and other offensive weapons by the Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo Division, Toyin Afolaogun, with the help of members of the public in his jurisdiction.”

He gave names of the arrested suspects as Oladeji Sherif and Akinbami Owode. The duo are still receiving treatment in the hospital and will be taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Eleweran Abeokuta for further investigation.

Mr. Adejobi said the suspects will soon appear in court. He added that the commissioner of police appreciated the support the police command enjoyed from the public in Ogun State and vowed to maintain the good tempo of modern and effective policing of the state.
Mr. Okoye also assured the public that all the arrested armed robbers and hoodlums in Ogun State will face the full wrath of the law as no case would be left unfinished or swept under the carpet in his command.
