Governments Help Militancy To Thrive In Nigeria- Gani Adams

The National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress OPC Otunba Gani Adams  has attributed failure of government to reason and respect the views of the people as a major factor that encourage  militancy in Nigeria

Adams while speaking on a private radio station in Ibadan on Wednesday said, most agitators which now transform into militancy group are being pushed to the wall by the government who did not only failed to listen to them and act but also incarcerate their members or get killed with guns

While tracing the history of Militancy in Nigeria, Otunba Adams said what actually led to the establishment of militant group which emanated in the Niger Delta Region was the killing of Ken Saro Wiwa and his group who were fighting for the liberation and development of Ogoniland
“Ken Saro Wiwa and his team were not using guns or grenade to fight the government, they were using media and words to demand for their right from the government, just like the way it is being done in the advanced country but rather than government listening to them they resolve to intimidation and killed them using baseless argument and this led to the emergence of militancy groups such as MEND, AVENGERS, and others” .

Speaking on the state of the nation security, Adams advocated for creation of state police so as to be able to effectively tackle the problem of insecurity in the nation” we do not have enough Federal Police that can effectively tackle the state of insecurity in the country,”

He said further the OPC will continue to do its best in protecting the South Western part of the country against external invaders “  We shall continue to protect Yorubaland, South West  use to be the safest of all the regions in Nigeria not until recently when we begin to see the Fulani herdsmen attacking villages and killing our people,Militants operating in the region and kidnapping our people including the traditional rulers , that is an insult we are not going to take that anymore “.

While clearing air on the pipeline protection contract, Otunba Adams said “ They contacted us for the  security of the pipeline because vandalism of those facilities was rampant then and we accepted the offer  which we  successfully executed for three months without receiving any Kobo before the contract was terminated and up till now we have not been paid”

He however urge president Muhammadu Buhari to ensure equity in his appointments as well as make frantic effort to fix the economy because the suffering is getting harder on the people than imagined.
