FRANCHISE BATTLE ; TM LEWIN SHOPS RAIDED IN LAGOS BY COURT ORDER

Three TM Lewin franchise shops in Lagos  were  last Wednesday raided by bailiffs from the Federal High Court, Lagos on the orders of Hon. Justice O.E. Abang   concerning Suit No. FHC/L/CS/1258/2014 following an application brought by EQUIPOISE NIGERIA LIMITED AND T.M. LEWIN (NIG) LIMITED,   seeking redress from the court for breach of contact against TM LEWIN AND SONS UK LIMITED, the British shirt makers and outfitters, for itself and all class of persons engaged in the use of the trade name TM Lewin and selling T.M. Lewin products in Nigeria.
The Order further restrains the defendants from using the trade name TM Lewin products in Nigeria pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The bailiffs carted away all TM Lewin  branded products found there in and are also expected to raid other sub dealers in Lagos and all over the country. The court also ordered that no body may sell TM Lewin branded products in Nigeria until the determination of the substantive suit.

The TM Lewin franchise was originally brought to Nigeria by Mr Dele Awosika, Ceo of Equipoise Nigeria Limited who as a master degree student in the United Kingdom saw the viability of the brand and started organising events in London to introduce Nigerians which saw a rise in patronage. Boosted by his success in England, Mr Awosika introduced the brand to Nigeria and subsequently registered TM LEWIN NIGERIA LTD and opened over ten TM Lewin franchise shops all over Nigeria and three shops in Ghana   before the franchise was wrongfully terminated in 2011 and given to another company.
