United Arab Emirate-owned
telecommunications firm, Etisalat Nigeria on Friday laid off over 2,000
permanent staff across the country.
It was gathered that the network operator is making moves to hire the services of contract staffs to run the operations of the company as the company is said to be facing financial crisis and can no longer meet its obligation of paying some of its permanent staff. However, the retrenched workers were paid off severance benefits.
A reliable source affected by the shocking development said: “We were asked to leave and our cheques handed to us, it is unfortunate that I am again back to the Job market.” the source added.
