Dr Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu, a former Minister of Education, is dead at 63. Festus Aja-Nwachukwu, the former minister’s younger brother, who confirmed the death in Abuja on Wednesday, said his elder brother died on Tuesday Nov. 17, while receiving treatment at an Israeli hospital.
Aja-Nwachukwu, was Education Minister from July 26, 2007 – December 17, 2008, during the administration of President Umaru Yar’Adua.
According to Festus, the cause of his elder brother’s death could only be ascertained after the hospital issues the death certificate. Aja-Nwachuku, a native of Okposi in Ebonyi, was born in 1952 and appointed minister of education in 2007.
His father was Nigeria’s first minister of education. The former minister attended the University of Ibadan from where he got a Bachelor’s Degree in statistics. He also had an MBA in Finance, MSc in Statistics and Ph.D in Economics.
