Politics is not a game for the feint of heart. This truism has been reiterated in various shapes and forms. American politics is one of the most brutal. Nobody comes out of it with his reputation intact. Your political adversaries will pound at your name until it reeks of filth. Barack Obama confessed that he usually hides the Newspapers from his Children, because he hates their reaction when they read the hate filled diatribes against their father. Nigerian politics has swiftly descended into a chasm where hate and filth are routinely hurled at people on the other side of the political divide. This has led to a situation where even though we have had more than 100 State Governors since 1999, not one single one of them is considered by our internet warriors of hate as being good enough for the highest office of the land.

Kresta Laurel: 25 Years and Still Counting
At 55, Nigeria remains a work in progress but definitely not so for certain critical sectors of the economy. Instructively, a nation could develop faster if the right attention is focused on those sectors which had served as veritable economic drivers to most advanced nations of the world. A nation's economic development and its prosperity could not be said to be assured if it fails to advance technologically.

OPINION: Bottleneck to development in Nigeria By Olawale Rotimi
In many respects, the Nigeria of today is quite different from that of the 1970s, 80s and 90s. For the first time in a generation, there is encouraging progress in masses commitment to seeing Nigeria work, which has been reflecting in the implementation of sound use of internet technology and other civil ways in making government productively accountable to its people. This has led to an invariable movement toward creating strong institutions and participatory forms of government that facilitate progressive agreement between the governments and governed. In spite of this inspiring development in Nigeria, it is not hidden that Nigeria still has a long way to go to recover from the scourge of bad governance, corruption, unemployment, insecurity, inflation, economic regression which have rocked the country at varying degrees over the decades.
