MEN of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested a former soldier identified as Sunday Umaru after he was said to have killed his girlfriend after finding amorous text messages on her phone from a suspected lover.
Mr Umaru, who served in the Third Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army but was attached to Sector Seven of Operation Save Haven in Jos, was alleged to have stabbed Charity Thomas in the stomach in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. Following the incident, the soldier was dismissed by the army for the action and handed over to the police for prosecution.
Parading the suspect, the Plateau State commissioner of police Adekunle Oladunjoye, said Mr Umaru had invited the victim from Kaduna State to stay with him. He added that while going through her phone, the former soldier saw some text messages from other men which made him lose his temper.
Also paraded was Dabung David, who allegedly strangled one Nanchi Zakariya, a psychology student of a university in the state, to death. Four suspected kidnappers and a notorious car snatcher, Aqwan Moses, from whom four cars were recovered, were also paraded.
Mr Oladunjoye called on members of the public to be cautious of dubious people, explaining that fake currency notes were being circulated by criminals in the state. He said there would be no hiding place for criminals in Plateau State as the command had intensified efforts to checkmate criminals.
