Driver gets N500,000 bail for allegedly being in possession of weeds


 


A Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday granted bail to a driver, Friday Onyieje, in the sum of N500,000 for allegedly being in possession‎ of one and half bag of weed. 
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I Dan-Oni, ordered the accused to produce one surety in like sum, evidence of tax payments and verifiable address. 

Onyieje, 46, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful possession of weed.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the driver committed the offence at Mile 2 Expressway, Orile Iganmu, Lagos, at about 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2015.‎
He said the Police Anti Crime Patrol Team caught the driver with the weed in his volkswagen bus with Registration number FST 848 XA.
He alleged that the accused could not give good account of how he came by the weed. 
He noted that the offence contravened Sections 327(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
The case was adjourned till Feb. 1, for mention.
