A 21-year-old tiling apprentice, Kamilu Salaudeen, has gone missing after reportedly visiting some friends in the Mowe area of Ogun State.
Punch Metro reports that the victim lived with a relative in the Oniyanrin, Mile 12 area of Lagos State, while his parents were based in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
A relative, Kabiru Yinusa, said that he had since become unreachable, adding that he also left his phone behind.
Yinusa said the family had gone to many police stations in Ogun State, but could not find him.
His parents in Osogbo were also said to be unaware of his whereabouts.
He said, “On Wednesday, April 21, he left the house, saying he was going to see some friends in Mowe.
“When he did not return home the day after, we became troubled.
“He had left his phone behind, so we could not reach him.
“We have gone to many of the police stations in Ogun State. In fact, the Divisional Police Officer of one of the stations, opened his cell to us, but he was not there.”
One of Salaudeen’s friends, Wasiu Jimoh, said he remembered that they played football on the fateful day.
“He left the field after we finished playing football and said he was going to Mowe. I don’t know any of his friends in Mowe,” he said.
A community leader, Yomi Odegbami, said he feared the 21-year-old was a victim of kidnapping.
He said, “I know him to be easy-going and cool-headed. When his family members told me that they had yet to find him, I was surprised.
“All our efforts to check police stations and see if he was being detained had been abortive. We have asked all his friends that we know, but they don’t know his whereabouts.
“We have checked hospitals and mortuaries in the state as well. It has been very frustrating.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, denied that the matter was reported at the station.
He urged the relatives of the victim to ensure that their report was documented at a station in the state.
