NFA to begins implementation of clubs’ licencing system

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA), on Tuesday in Abuja, said it had started the implementation of the Clubs’ Licensing System in the country.

A statement issued by the NFA Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, stated that the implementation, which took effect from Jan. 31, followed a FIFA circular and in particular, CAF circular dated Nov. 26, 2013.


It quoted Olajire as saying the development became mandatory for all federations to adopt and implement the system for clubs participating in national and confederation club competitions.


Olajire said that licencing regulations was the basic document for clubs through which different members of the football family aimed to promote common principles.

“The principles are sporting value, transparency in their finances, ownership and control of clubs, players and coaches welfare, and the credibility and integrity of club competitions.

“License under the NFA Clubs Licensing Regulations are in six categories which include: Sporting Criteria, Infrastructure Criteria, Personnel and Administrative Criteria.
“Others are: Legal Criteria, Financial Criteria and Business, Commercial and Promotion Criteria.’’

The NFA media officer listed the safeguarding of the credibility of club competitions and the improvement level of professionalism within the football family as the objectives of the system.
He also named other objectives to include the promotion of sporting values in accordance with principles of fair play, the promotion of transparency in finances, ownership and control of clubs.

He stated that the required implementation of the Licensing Regulations would be discharged in two phases from Jan. 2014 to Nov. 30, 2014.
All processes required to ensure that the Club Licensing Regulations become operational must be completed by the end of the second phase, being Nov. 30, 2014, he noted.
