KWSG Sets up new security outfit -inaugurates council chairmen

The Kwara State Government has flagged-off a security initiative tagged “Operation Harmony” with a donation of 15 Toyota Hilux 2X4 pick up vans. The security outfit which comprises the Nigeria Police, the Army, the Civil Defence Corps and the State Security Services was charged with the responsibility of preventing crimes and restoring the State’s reputation for security and low crime rates.

Also, the Governor has advocated for more responsibilities and resources for critical sectors such as agriculture, water supply, health, environment and road construction to States and local governments in order to hasten developments in such sectors.

Inaugurating the 15 newly elected council chairmen in the State, Governor Ahmed explained that such a devolution of more powers to States and local councils was expedient as they are closer to the people and better placed to promote the peoples well being in an efficient manner.

Speaking during the flag off of Operation Harmony, the Governor expressed hope that men and officers who form the nucleus of Operation Harmony would live up to expectations of the government and people of Kwara State through hard work and commitment to duty.

He also noted that the birth of Operation Harmony was an implicit confidence his administration has in the ability of  security operatives in the state to sustain peace given necessary incentives and supports.

The Governor commended the officers and men of various security agencies in the State for their roles “in keeping our streets safe, our homes secured and our neighbourhoods protected”, acknowledging that efforts of the agencies in tackling crime were dwarfed by the scale of security challenges they confront.

Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, in his remarks, explained that the flag-off of the Operation Harmony was timely due to the expected upsurge in crime and criminality as the year is coming to an end
