The National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Chief Promoter of Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), Otunba Gani Adams, has urged members of the organisation to rely more on the power and support God, emphasising that God's power is the ultimate.
Adams made the call yesterday during the annual Thanksgiving service for the organisation, held at the prestigious Ettal Hotel and Suit, Oregon, Lagos.
Adams said the prograame, which attracted a large crowd and leaders of the three religious organisations, was organised to thank God and appreciate God's love and support for the group.
He explained that the service was arranged to involve the three major religions in the land because the OPC is a non-religious organisation. "The OPC is not a religious organisation. Hence, we are here to thank God and to appreciate His goodness in the lives of our members in the three major religions in the land."
The OPC leader reiterated the need for the people to continue to promote the culture and tradition of Yoruba people, saying that culture is a very important aspect of a man's life. "Any man who loses his culture has lost all there is to live for. Your culture is the totality of who and what you are, therefore culture plays very important roles in the life a man."
He described as ignorant people who claim that members of OPC do not worship God. According to him, most of the festivals organised by the OPC to honour God.
"It is funny that some people still believe that members of OPC do not worship God, and that we are idol worshippers. But nothing can be farther from the truth than this. All our programmes are designed to honour God. We also need to inform them that Olodumare festival, a 21-day programme, is organises in honour of the almighty. You'll agree with me that most of those who criticize and condemn us don't do as much as this in the service of God."
He thanked the religious leaders, who one after the other offered prayers and thanksgiving, for refusing to heed to the false claims and rumours being spread against the OPC by its enemies.
He said the world is now going back herbal medicine, and wondered why black people continue to deceive themselves about the usefulness of herbs. "It is unfortunate that our people have refused to understand the power of herbs. Meanwhile, the west is taking us back to herbs medicine and we now spend millions of foreign currencies to buy them. For how long would we continue to deceive ourselves. For how long do we continue to live in self- denial about God's gifts to our race?," Adams asked.
He also used the opportunity to announce the organisation's programmes for the year. The programmes, all totaling 34, include Olokun festival, billed for October; Osun Oshogbo festival in August; Okota festival in July and Eledumare festival in March.
Others include Olumo festival; Oranimyan festival; Oodua festival and Ogun festival, among other programmes lined up for the year.
Top dignitaries who graced the event include ace Nollywood actor, Yomi Fashlanso; gospel act, Lanre Teriba; Alhaji Olufunsho Odutola, OPU coordinator, Italy; Hon Fatima Muhhamed and Chief Ganiu Oshidele, OPU coordinator in Scandinavia, among several others.
The men of God who presided over the service include Primate Peter Oyewole of Iretiogo C&S, Ikotun, Lagos; Prophet Kehinde Oludare of CAC, Fire Ministry Int. Ejigbo, Lagos; Imam Saheed Abdulahi, Akoibu Islamiyah, Ijanikin, Lagos and Chief Ifakayode Anipupo, among several others.
