Nigeria Military Reopens Primary School In Gwoza To Assist IDPs

To further assist returnees and other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with education of their children, the Nigerian military has reopened a mixed Primary School in Gwoza, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State yesterday. The military in conjunction with other security agencies and other security stakeholders have placed adequate security measures to ensure the pupils and teachers’ safety and security. Already classes have commenced and the turn out was quite impressive.

Missing Bauchi Aircraft Lands Safely In Nigeria

The allegedly missing Bauchi State-owned aircraft, has landed in Nigeria from Morocco where the state government claimed it was found.
The Embraer ERJ 145 touched down on the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport Bauchi at about 10 am Friday.
Its whereabouts had been a subject of controversy as the new government suggested the aircraft was stolen by its predecessor and hidden in Morocco.

Senate Office Reacts To Saraki's Arrest Warrant By Code Of Conduct Tribunal

As a result of the absence of  Senator Saraki at the tribunal today, the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar has issued a Bench warrant for the arrest of Senate President Bukola Saraki. The IGP and other security agencies have been ordered to produce him by Monday.

The Text of Welcome Address by Otunba (Dr.) Gani Adams, the Convener of the Oodua Progessive Union at the Launch of Republic of Ghana Chapter of Oodua Progessive Union held in Accra, Republic of Ghana on18th September, 2015.

Protocol 

Your Royal Highnesses, captains of commerce, community leaders, distinguished ladies and gentlemen,permit me to begin this address by refreshing  you on how this organization was formed and give you the raison d’tre (I mean the reasons) for founding the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU). 

The idea to set up an organization like the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) began sometime one night in 2013 while I was resting at the frontage of my house, and thinking about the possible ways to bring together all Yoruba irrespective of their home towns, religion, political leanings and places circumstances might have dispersed them. 

I have always thought about ways of mobilizing our people and descendants for the elevation of our cultural values despite various shades of socio-cultural, economic and political groups, thoughts and opinions they belong. 

From this idea, I began to discuss with my aides, friends, associates and well-wishers.

I told them how the burning idea was on my mind, that I would like to set up an organization that would unite our people across the world, and involve them in the projection of our identity as Yoruba people. 

We thought of a name for the organization. I suggested the name Oodua Progressive Union (OPU). 

Everyone agreed with me. Then we began the organization and we started working towards its development. 

I am glad that the organization which began and grew from our shared thoughts is growing and has continued to blossom. 

Today, it may interest you to know that OPU has been established and registered in more 54 countries across the world. 

Your Royal Highnesses, captains of commerce, community leaders, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) is a non-governmental, non-political and non-religious organization that was formed with the primary objective of fostering unity among Yoruba people and provide a platform for our people (particularly outside Yorubaland) to work for the promotion of common interest of all Yoruba people. 

The OPU is established to strengthen the fabric of cohesion, unity and integration of all Yoruba people. 

Our mission therefore is to create enabling economically viable platform that promotes peace, unity and harmonious co-existence among all descendants of Oduduwa through the reawakening and strengthening of cultural and filial ties that binds us together.

Against this backdrop, the Oodua Progressive Union’s (OPU) aims and objectives include working for the political and economic liberation of all sons and daughters of Oodua throughout the world; 

creating fora where issues relating to the progress and unity of the Yoruba people irrespective can be discussed and realized; building in each country where the organization exist an Oodua House that would serve as the rallying point for all Yoruba people; 

offering assistance in any form to all Yoruba sons and daughters in their country of residence; and promoting and defending the rich cultural heritage as a basis of identity for Yoruba race in the Diaspora. 

Consequently through Oodua Progressive Union (OPU), we hope to break both physical and psychological boundaries that kept our people apart for years by reawakening and strengthening our common link to Oduduwa.

Among our peers on the continent and to a large extent throughout the world, no ethnic group have enjoyed enormous cultural visibility and patronage as the Yoruba people. 

In the press, large volumes of writings covering socio-cultural, economic and political strides and achievements of our people are published annually. 

Among ethnic groups of the world, people of Yoruba ancestry are well-dispersed. 

The dispersal of Yoruba people across the world is occasioned by waves of migration that are historically conditioned by indigenous settlements, the devilish Trans- Atlantic Slave trade and voluntary movement of our people as result of the to fester their socio-political and economic nests. 

Today, Yoruba people and their descendants are predominant in Nigeria and republics of Benin and Togo. 

We are also well established in some parts of the republic of Ghana.

Yoruba people’s presence in Ghana dates back to the earliest time when our people trade freely and interact with their neighbours without inhibition. 

In recent times, written records has however indicated that the first group of Yorubas arrived in the Gold Coast around 1813 and initially settled in such places as Accra, Kumasi and Sekondi before moving to the northern part of Gold Coast, especially Tamale, Wa, Lawra and Nandom.  

Going by this record and as shown by the celebration held in 2013, Yoruba people have lived in Ghana for over 200 years. 

During colonialism when the then Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria were under British rule, people from both countries travelled to each other countries unhindered either as traders or public servants.

As we can see, Yoruba people have maintain strong presence in Ghana for a long time. 

Our presence is evident from the contributions we continue to make to the economy of Ghana and its society. 

Today, many of our people have established businesses and their families in this country. 

Consequently, what is required of us is to strengthen the existing relationship between our people and our host communities in Ghana. 

The strengthening of these ties is one of the many reasons why this country’s chapter of Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) is launched today. 

It is therefore my belief that after today’s event relationship among our people will continue to mutually yield beneficial dividend to not only our people but our countries.

Permit me to end this address by showing our gratitude to all our guests for your continuous support for our all our programmes. 

Your presence at most of our programmes gives us reassurances that we have your backing in all that we do. Our prayer for all of you is good health and long life. 

Let me also thank members of the diplomatic corps particularly our ambassadors for their presence and support for the programme. 

We appreciate the presence of many government officials at this launch. 

It is our hope that the government will not relent in keeping its pact with our people. 

We appreciate and thank all our guests for their distinguished presence. 

We also say a big thank you to members of the fourth estate of the realm for their continuous positive reportage of our activities.  

Last but not the least on our list of appreciations is our brothers and sisters for their unrelenting commitment to Oodua Progressive Union (OPU).

Senator Saraki's Code Of Conduct Trial Begins Today

Senate President Bukola Saraki appeared before the jury today at the Code of Conduct Tribunal following the alleged false declaration of his assets when he was governor of Kwara state. Although Saraki is not physically present in court, he is represented by his lawyer, Mahmud Magaji.

Senator Saraki Speaks On Code Of Conduct Allegtions

Senate President Bukola Saraki, speaking with National Assembly correspondents on the 13 count charge of corruption leveled against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau yesterday September 16th, he said;

“There is no doubt about that. It is mischievous, it is not correct and the issues therein are not true. As far as we are concerned, we are not shaken.
We will focus on what we have come to the Senate to do. I was elected by the people. I was elected by my colleagues to work for what is good and in the interest of this country and that is what I will do. For the Code of Conduct Tribunal to wait for 13 years before working on a declaration that was made since 2003 is ridiculous. I have always done my declaration and we will defend those allegations but we will continue to do our work here”

OPC condemns killing of DSS operators by pipeline vandals

The Director of Media and  Publicity  of  Oodua People’s Congress  , ( OPC ) led by Otunba Gani Adams, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin , has condemned the  gruesome  killing of 10  members of State Security Operatives  by  pipeline vandals in Isawo  , ikorodu , Lagos state  .

Barrister   Oguntimehin in a release made available to the media in Lagos   described the action of the vandals as “   Highly condemnable.

An act brazen in its criminality which is injurious to the national psyche only   perpetrated by sub – human beings who are not fit to live.”

He  lamented  that  ‘it is sad that some miscreants who are being financed by  a sinisterly powerful and deadly  oil mafia   have put paid to the lives and  brilliant  carriers  of 10 wondrous well trained  members of the Department of State Security Services.   

Barrister Oguntimehin   pointed out that the death of these men of honour at the point of service in such a gruesome circumstance is a pointer to the fact that the war against pipeline vandals is not a tea party’s affair which can be taken or approached with kid’s glove

“The death of the bright 10 SS operators though sad and sorrowful is a testimony to the fact that the war against pipeline vandals and protection of our common wealth should not be localized within the confine of the regular security agents alone “

Barrister .Oguntimehin suggested  that “ this unfortunate event should  kindled our sense of perception and reasoning and  task patriotic feeling  in us to always treat national issues without sentiment  “” ‘

 He charged  the Federal government “The government must realized that oil pipeline  vandalism has grown  from being a past time of petty and tiny  miscreants of the society , it is has assumed an organized high level criminality dimension being controlled by powerful and blood tasting mafia who cannot not be dislodged solely  by the regular security agencies “

Mr Oguntimehin suggested  that “it is high time for the Federal government to stop being   mono focal in its effort at putting a stop to the activities of the vandals with the regimentation  to the belief that only the regular trained security agencies can do it  “

He pointed out that “ The recent , three months monitoring of the pipeline by   private groups has proved to all that the engagement of the so called irregular or the socio – cultural groups brought modicum of stability and sanity to pipeline vandalism. This is a pointer to the fact that the war against pipeline vandalism should not be restricted to the regular armed forces “

Barrister Oguntimehin suggested that “ As it is , the Federal government should confront  this dare devilry act of pipeline vandalism by involving both the regular armed agencies and the socio - cultural  groups which have been tried and successfully monitored the pipelines without major calamity and waste of human resources like this “

He therefore called on the Federal government to set up a dual joint action task force which should include the regular security agencies and the socio- cultural group to combat the deadly activities of pipeline vandals in Nigeria

 

Barrister Oguntimehin while commiserating with the Nation over the death of the SSS operatives tasked the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the gruesome murder.

Sometimes I Still Miss My Way In The Presidential Villa - President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari shocked his interviewer in Paris today that he sometimes misses his way in Aso Presidential Villa.
When asked  by an interviewer on France 24, whether Aso Rock was like the Government House he left in 1985.
Buhari answered:

 It was not the same place. The last time I was there, I was in the barracks. This time I am in a palace. At times, I can’t find my way around. It is so big so much that it must be expensive to maintain. But it is there, it cannot be removed.”

Boko Haram May Be Granted Amnesty If They Release Chibok Girls - Buhari

President Buhari made it known in an interview with AFP  that he may decide to grant Boko Haram prisoners amnesty if Boko Haram members return the Chibok girls complete in number,

“We are trying to see whether we can negotiate with the Boko Haram prisoners in our custody for the release of the Chibok girls. If the Boko Haram leadership eventually agrees to turn over the Chibok girls to us, the complete number, then we may decide to give them (the prisoners) amnesty.”

Accident On Ondo/Ore Road Claim 18 Lives

18 lives have been lost in a road accident that occurred at Igushin Town on Ondo/Ore Road in Ondo State, late Tuesday.

According to an eye witness, the vehicle involved was an 18-passengers bus and a truck which reportedly had a head on collision causing the bus to somersault several times before catching fire, burning all the occupants.

APC Says Amaechi Is ‘Spotless’
