Gunmen abduct engineers inside Adekunle Ajasin University
Four armed men on Thursday evening invaded Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state, abducting two expatriate engineers handling the construction of the school’s Senate building.
The two Syrian engineers, who are employees of Charvet Construction Company, were kidnapped at the construction site by the hoodlums who came in a Mercedes Benz car.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the school, Sola Imoru, bandits went straight for their victims, shooting into the air continuously.
Imoru said the gunmen shot the driver of the victims and dragged the expatriates into their Nissan Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), injuring some people in the process.
“In a desperate attempt to escape from the scene of the incident, the assailants shot indiscriminately and their bullets hit a few individuals who are currently receiving treatment. As of now, there is no indication that any member of the university community was affected, but the incident has since been reported to the police,” he said.
Imoru, however, assured all members of the university community of their safety and urged them to be more security-conscious.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Wole Ogodo, said the police were on the trail of the abductors and would bring to bring them to book.
He said the hoodlums went away with the Nissan jeep belonging to the engineers as well as three mobile handsets and N400,000.
Ogodo, however, said that the Nissan SUV had been recovered by his men, and the four persons injured during the incident had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
