Rape: Osun monarch bags 7 years imprisonment



Osun State High Court has sentenced a monarch in Osun State, The Loja of Araromi Otokobo town in Ilesa, Moses Adeniyi to seven years imprisonment for rapping two teenagers who were students of St. Margaret School, Ilesa.

After thorough prosecution by the state Ministry of Justice, the Ilesa Division of Osun State High court found the 70-year-old monarch guilty of the offence levelled against him.

The traditional ruler was arraigned in court on 28 of March 2011 on two charges of rape and indecent assault. The matter had since dragged on, until Thursday that the final judgement was delivered.

The prosecuting counsel from Osun Ministry of Justice, Mr Tijani Adekilekun proved to the court that the accused committed offences, contrary to and punishable under Section 358 and 360 of Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.11, Laws of Osun State.

The presiding judge, Justice Kudirat Akano in her judgement expressed disappointment in the accused and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment at Ilesa maximum prison without option of fine.

The prosecutor told the court that sometime in May 2010; the accused threatened the girls with charms, forcefully deflowered the two girls, raped them together in a room and warned them not to inform anyone or else they would die.

According to the fact of the case, the accused gave the girls a ride in his car when they were returning from school. One of the girls was 13-years-old then while the other was 14-years-old.

Instead of dropping the girls at their house, he tricked them and took them to a hotel where he deflowered them. The accused was said to have used a white handkerchief to wipe the blood from the vagina the girls when he deflowered them and warned them not to disclose to their parents.

The mother of one of the girls eventual suspected that her daughter was no longer a virgin and queried the girl to reveal the person that deflowered her. After a lot of persuasion, the girl told her mother that she could not mention the person because she does not want to die.

The mother took the matter to the school and the teachers assisted the woman to assure the girl that she would not die if she revealed the person that deflowered her. The girl eventually narrated what the accused did to her and her friend.
