STRANGE: HOW SENATE PRESIDENT, SARAKI PRESIDENT BUHARI TWICE

What could have been the outright rejection of President Muhammadu Buhari's nominees, who are to be screened by the senate was last week averted by Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

The nominees included Mr. Williams Babatunde Fowler, Acting Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); Eng. Umbra Garba Dambatta, Vice Chairman of the National Communication Commission (NCC); Ahmed Lawan Kuru, Managing Director of Asset Management Corporation (AMCON) as well as Mr. Kola Ayeye, Eberechukwu Fortunate Uneze and Alh. Aminu Ismail, Executive Directors, AMCON.

Saraki before commencement of sitting of the day, did a random sampling of opinion of his colleagues and, sensing that many of them were angry about the breach committed by the nominees who had assumed office and were already acting in their various capacities contrary to the position of the law, the Senate President ensured that the matter was not listed on the Order Paper for the day. He also refused to mention the issue on the floor.

Also last week, the Senate President despite the not too good relationship between him and the President since he became Senate President waited for hours to personally receive the Ministerial list. Already, the senate President had adjourned sitting till this week after all businesses of the day have been concluded,he however stayed in his office to receive the list from the President's team and promised accelerated screening this week.
One wonders if the assumed not too positive cat and mouse relationship between the Senate President and President Buhari might be a ruse after all.
