PDP SECRETARIAT BURNT DOWN IN NASARAWA STATE


Unknown firebombers early today, February 22, were reported to have burnt down the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Obi Local Area of Nasarawa State.
This happening just barely 48 hours after the party held its 2015 general elections campaign in the area.
Addressing the media, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa police command, Ismaila Numan, confirmed the incident, saying 18 suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime while police officers have also been deployed to the scene of the incident to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

According to Premium Times, the arsonists allegedly came with petrol in gallons, poured it on the roof of the secretariat and then set the building ablaze.
While eye witnesses also said that the arsonists drove away the security man before torching the building.
One witness, Ibrahim Kasimu, said the incident started when youth suspected to be APC supporters began to destroy canopies and chairs used by the PDP during their campaign in Obi Local Government Area.

PDP youth, who responded to the attacks, took to the streets destroying every APC property in sight.
The State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Yunana Iliya, who also confirmed the burning of the party’s office, said all documents and valuables in the office were burnt.

He asked security agencies in the state to take note of the attack on its members and property and to, as a matter of urgency, provide security for its members and supporters.
