MULTIPLE BOMB BLAST IN THREE TOWNS IN BIU
The bomb blast today in BIU was said to have occurred one after another and were heard echoing all over the town 3 times.
The explosion struck at about 12:50 on February 17, Tuesday, Muhammed Miringa from the Civilian JTF said:
“Three bomb explosions have occurred in Yamarkumi area of Biu at about 1pm. There are many casualties. We are trying to see how to assist the aide workers to help victims that are still alive.”
Musa Ameriwa, who reported for DailyTrust, was at the scene minutes after the strike. According to the reporter, the suicide bombers disguised as passengers of a Keke Napep (tricycle).
“Part of the rule at the checkpoint is that once a vehicle or any means of transport arrives, everybody, with the exception of the driver must alight and subject himself for routine check.
“When the tricycle arrived, the miscreants got down and were moving towards the vigilantes when the first one detonated his explosion…minutes later, the other also detonated his own too, killing many people,” he said.
However, another source told a different story, said the attack at the checkpoint was carried out by gunmen, not suicide bombers. The witness, Margwi Kwata, said the unknown attackers, probably Boko Haram members, entered the area in a utility vehicle. They engaged the soldiers in a gunfight, threw several bombs at the crowd.
