APC AND PDP CLASH AT POLICE PEACE MEETING
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have clashed at a peace meeting organized by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 11, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye in Osun State.
The peace accord which was meant to ensure that violence-free elections hold in the state, had in attendance leaders of various political parties.
At the meeting, the AIG appealed to politicians and other residents in the state to assist the police and other security agencies to ensure a violence-free poll in the state.
Things however fell apart when the two parties expressed sharp disagreements over members of which political party were responsible for the series of attacks on the opponents in the state.
Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, accused a PDP leader of sponsoring thugs to attack the APC members and detaining them at his residence in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
The PDP reacted by saying it was wrong for the APC leader to shift the blame on the opposition party when members of the ruling party were the ones unleashing attacks on known PDP members.
Punch reports that the Chairman Campaign Committee of the APC in Ijesha South Federal Constituency, Mr. Idowu Korede, also addressed a press conference where he accused the PDP senatorial candidate in Ife/Ijesha District, Mr. Francis Fadahunsi, of using the police and operatives of the Department of State Service to arrest the APC members on trump up charges.
Korede said, “On 6th February, 2015, shortly after the delivery of the landmark judgment of Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Adeyemi Jelili, a transporter at Ifewara Park of Ilesha branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, a reliable and loyal member of our great party, had a harmless and friendly joke, which turned out to be his albatross as he was arrested by the PDP thugs, led by Sina Eleran. He was beaten and axed mercilessly before he was taken to the torture centre, the home of Francis Fadahunsi at Ilase where they invited men of the Anti-robbery Squad to arrest and take him to Osogbo.”
