Fashola Urged To Address LASU Crisis

Dr Nasiru Fagge, the President, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Monday
urged Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State to address the unhealthy happenings at the Lagos State University, Ojo.

Fagge made the plea at the end of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the university.

He said that ASUU was disappointed with the happenings in LASU. Fagge decried the manner at which the university Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa, was handling the matter.

He said that the LASU chapter of the union had been at loggerheads with the university authorities for close to two years resulting in the heightening of the hitherto receding crisis in the institution.

The ASUU president frowned at steps being taken by the university authorities to stop ASUU check off dues and once again throw the university into further crises.
"This is due largely to the administrative impunity, reckless disregard for established norms in university governance and primitive witch-hunting," he said.

Fagge said that the height of the situation was the interdiction of Prof. Tunde Fatunde and the purported withdrawal of the PhD certificate of the ASUU-LASU chairman, Dr Adekunle Idris.
He said that the national body of ASUU supported the ASUU-LASU chapter’s call for a visitation panel to unravel and correct the causes of incessant crises rocking the institution.
