The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has described Heritage Bank’s continued deployment of innovative banking services and preference for quality workforce as a strong proof that professionalism still thrives in the Nigerian banking system.
Speaking during the Institute’s stakeholder engagement visit to the Bank’s corporate head office in Lagos recently, Otunba (Mrs.) Debola Osibogun, president/chairman of Council, CIBN said Heritage Bank has, in less than two years of operation, brought remarkable freshness to the delivery of banking services.
“It is our delight that Heritage Bank is making remarkable impact within the Nation’s Banking industry. We recognize and appreciate your sense of innovation as a bank which reflects on the banking services you offer”, Osibogun noted.
The CIBN President also congratulated Heritage Bank’s Managing Director, Mr. Ifie Sekibo, on his recent investiture as honorary Senior Member of the CIBN.
“As a member of the CIBN Governing Council, I have no doubt in your capability to be able to drive Heritage Bank’s innovative vision and strategic developmental decision. It is our hope that you will continue to thrive on professionalism and excellent banking that you have established here”, she said.
The CIBN boss explained that the need to encourage more Bankers to sign on to the new Code of Conduct in the Nigerian banking industry was one of the reasons that informed the Stakeholder engagement visit to Heritage Bank.
‘The new Code of Conduct is an important strategic initiative that is designed to elevate  good banking practices and ethics aimed at restoring public confidence in the banking system. I implore all executives of this bank to personally sign the Conduct Form and equally encourage all staff to do same”, she intoned.
In his response, Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Mr Ifie Sekibo, expressed appreciation to CIBN for the engagement visit and for admitting him into the institute’s Governing Council. He promised to ensure total compliance of Heritage Bank’s management and staff to the CIBN code of conducts.
“At Heritage Bank, we take banking beyond accepting deposits; we have succeeded in establishing that banking is about creating, preserving and transferring wealth to the people. We provide our customers with financial advisory & business support as well as market access and value chain services, among others. We have also established The Refinery- our e-banking training centre - where we train our type of quality Bankers. The product of that enterprise has been fantastic; the Centre has produced experienced, confident and intelligent bankers,” Sekibo explained.
As part of the stakeholder engagement, there was open display of signed Code of Conduct form by Heritage Bank’s Managing Director, Mr. Ifie Sekibo and the Executive Director, Ivory Banking, Mrs. Mary Akpobome amidst cheers by both CIBN council members and Heritage Bank’s
