Her username or handle on twitter, @ini4phil, still bears four letters from the first name of her now estranged hubby. Sadly, that is the only relic left from what was the six year old turbulent union between popular Nollywood actress, Ini Edo and Phillip Ehiagwina.
Even that too may have changed like every other thing between the estranged couple by the time you are reading this. For instance, the Akwa Ibom screen charmer has unceremoniously taken away the appellation 'wife' from her profile.
Some days after the news of her marriage break-up hit public, the Glo Ambassador broke her silence and came out to clear the air.
What Ini told the world
She tweeted via @ini4phil, "I asked for a divorce from my my ex-husband because of lots of irreconcilable differences. I never cheated on my husband." Ini Edo's response came after allegations of infidelity were leveled against her.
She continued, "There is a conscious and malicious attempt at tarnishing my image. This whole saga is familiar let's not forget de past. Thanks and God bless (sic)."
Nollywood actor fingered as cause
More dirts have continued to be thrown up from both camps since news first emerged of the collapse of the once rosy union. EE exclusively gathered that a handsome and randy Nollywood actor is at the root of the current mess between the actress and her estranged hubby.
Accusing fingers were pointed at the fair-skinned actor who hails from the South East for destroying the actress’ marriage. Insiders alleged that the married actor from a popular acting clan quietly enjoyed a romantic relationship with the actress, while her marriage lasted.
The two were said to have taken their liaison from one movie location to another one and it became the subject of hot gossip in movie circles.
Enter Phillip Ehiagwina's ex-wife
It now seems that US-based Nigerian born actress cum Medical Practitioner, Ruth Okoro who was formerly married to Phillip Ehiagwina may now be having the last laugh. Okoro recently shared a message that she wrote to Ini Edo seven years ago.
She began, “Hi Ini, I have information that you are having an affair with my husband, Philip Ehiagwina. He has been deceiving girls all over the place, making them believe he has heaven and earth. You are not the only girl obviously, but Ini watch your back so you don’t regret, I have nothing against you but a piece of advice.
"I heard that you might be pregnant for him, if it’s true, good luck. I called your manager and told her everything. You are a very pretty girl and should know how to respect your body and pray for the right husband. Do not be carried away by flashy things cause that could be deadly too. All that glitters isn’t gold, remember,” she posted.
Ini and Phillip in the beginning
On how they met, Phillip opened up in a 2008 interview. "Ini and I met during one of my visits to Nigeria. I saw many good qualities in her, we clicked and now, the rest is history," he revealed.
For the couple, 'it was simply love at first sight’. The transcontinental distance between the couple did not affect their relationship. In November 2008, Ini and Phillip celebrated their traditional wedding ceremony in Ini’s hometown amid fears.
On Saturday, February 28, the lovebirds walked down the aisle at a very colourful ceremony in Houston, Texas, USA. The ceremony was attended by guests such as Oge Okoye and Festus Keyamo among others. All that are now history as the centre could no longer hold between the couple based on incessant allegations of infidelity from the once doting and loving hubby.
