MEGA AWARDS:THE RETURN OF THE KING-MAKERS…

We are here again... the time has come for the kingmakers (fans and admirers) to exercise their power to influence the trends of Nigerian music. Now, the screening process of the Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards, MEGA has gone up another notch as we gallop towards the finale on Friday, November 14, 2014 for the Awards Night showpiece.

After energy-sapping eight weeks of sifting and screening, the National Nomination Committee in association with the Body of Judges has fixed the date for the release of the Pre-Nomination list for the MEGA 2014 ceremonies. In 31 categories, the pre-nominated works can be voted for by members of the Nigerian public on different platforms and social networks controlled by the organisers. This national "open-ballot" Public Voting (PV) is scheduled to start from Saturday, August 30, 2014.

This stage of the awards shall focus on 57 CDs (for album and medley categories); and 53 singles. The breakdown of the Public Voting (PV) listing shows that there are seven (7) categories for Singles; three (3) for medleys; eight (8) for "Solo Performances"; six (6) Genres and seven (7) main categories. It is hoped that Nigerians will embrace this initiative and vote massively such that their preferences may have some influence on the Judges' final decisions.

Incidentally, the PV is designed to dovetail into the Nominees' Unveil Ceremony slated for TuesdayOctober 21, 2014 with all the razzle-dazzle of a near-award ceremony. The Unveil show, where the final four nominees in each category would be announced, is expected to be covered live by top radio station and MEGA-partner, Raypower 100.5FM. Venue will be announced later.

Lovers of Nigerian music are encouraged to visit the website: www.megawards.org for full details (including names, songs, criteria & definitions); listen to the pre-nominated works, and start voting for their favourite artistes and songs - "the voting protocol is dubbed "One-Man-One-Email".

Apart from supportive magazines, radio and television stations, interested Nigerians can also vote using the following platforms: FB:www.facebook.com/MEGAwards; Twitter handle: @ tweet_megawards; and soon to be released SMS short-code, in concert with Mtec Communications & Megalectrics Ltd - owners of Beat FM, Classic and Naija FM radio stations.
