Fake NYSC orientation camp: 62 fake corps members arrested

NIGERIA Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State command, on Monday, arrested 62 fake corps members at another fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp at Tammah village, in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the fake orientation camp was to operate for just one day, in which all the fake corps members would take their photographs with both the NYSC vested crest and other kits and were likely to be issued fake certificates forthwith for future references.

Parading the suspects, 44 females and 18 males, the state commandant, Mr Andekin Amos Musa, said the arrest was made possible through the routine surveillance of members of the state command, adding that four drivers, who convened them to the village and one of the photographers assigned for the illicit job, were also arrested.

According to him: “The suspected fake corps members were arrested at the outskirt of  Nasarawa town near the Government Secondary School and investigations are still on, as they will be charged to court immediately after investigations. Our investigations thus far  revealed that one Mr Chinedu, was the coordinator and director of the fake camp.

“Further investigations revealed that the suspected  fake corps members paid money ranging from N120,000 to N200,000  before they were admitted to the camp. “I want to warn parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards very closely, so as to curb their excesses,” he added.

In an interview with newsmen, some of the suspects, who were alleged to be running evening classes at the University of Jos, Jos, Plateau State capital, lamented that they were lured into it, saying, “we were not aware it is fake due to our desperation to get job after the education, because without the NYSC certificate, we may not get a job in the future.”

It will be recalled that the command had paraded fake corps members, who were arrested at two different fake camps in preparations for induction and orientation in the outskirt of the state, recently.
