GENERAL BUHARI'S WORDS CONCERNING THE ELECTION POSTPONEMENT

We Must Remain Calm But Resolute
Following the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the 2015 general elections by six weeks, I wish to appeal for utmost restraint and calm by all Nigerians, especially the teeming supporters of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This postponement, which comes on the heels of  the bogey of the National Security Adviser that half of the registered voters were being disenfranchised was exposed as a crude and fraudulent attempt to subvert the electoral process.
The PDP administration has now engineered a postponement using the threat that security will not be guaranteed across the length and breadth  of Nigeria because of military engagement in some states in the North East.
It  is important to note that although INEC acted within its constitutional powers, it is clear that it has been boxed into a situation where it has had to bow to pressure. Thus, the independence of INEC has been gravely compromised.

Barrister Atunwa while reacting to the shift in the date of the general elections explained that the present Jonathan led administration came up with the postponement of the poll as the PDP was afraid of defeat and urged Nigerians to be consistent and steadfast in the face of intimidation and provocation to ensure the resolution of the numerous problems confronting the nation.
He praised farmers in the area for their sacrifice, tolerance and embracing peace, stressing that the rift between the farmers and the Fulani Herdsmen would soon be totally resolved by the State Government.

•    “The credibility of our democracy and governance is regrettably diminished” he says.
•    Urges Nigerians to look beyond the smokescreen and see the shift as deferment of the imminent date of Change.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, Sunday expressed disappointment at the rescheduling of the General Elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on grounds of insecurity describing it as an abdication by the Federal Government of its primary duty of protecting the life and property of Nigerian citizens.
Fielding questions from newsmen after collecting his Permanent Voters’ Card at the State Senior Grammar School (Special), Surulere, Governor Fashola stressed that the postponement for reasons of insecurity was an ambush of INEC by the Peoples Democratic Party controlled Federal  Government aimed at blackmailing and arm-twisting the electoral body to shift the date for the exercise.
