The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has suspended fuel import permit of Capital Oil, Sahara Petroleum and Folawiyo Petroleum for three months for alleged profiteering.
This is contained in a statement issued by Abimbola Ogan, the DPR spokesperson, on Friday in Lagos.
MULTIPLE TAXATION:HOTEL OWNERS CRY OUT
The Hotel Owners Forum Abuja (HOFA), has decried the issue of multiple taxation imposed on its members by government.
The President of HOFA, Dr Bola Onigbogi made this known at the annual dinner of the forum in Abuja on Friday.
She said that because if the visibility of hotel business, it was easy for government agencies to track them down for the enforcement of numerous taxes.

Nigeria Union in South Africa has condemned the killing of a 34 year old housewife, Mrs Christiana Onyeka, by unknown gunmen on Dec. 3.
Onyeka, a mother of four and native of Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra, was killed in her husband`s office in Midrand, near Johannesburg.

Oil slides to new seven-year low as IEA warns of worse glut
Crude oil prices hit fresh seven-year lows on Friday as the International Energy Agency (IEA) warned global oversupply could worsen in 2016.
Brent slipped below 39 dollars per barrel for the first time since December 2008 as the IEA, which advises developed nations on energy, warned that demand growth was starting to slow.
"The technical and the fundamentals are singing from the same hymn sheet," said Tamas Varga, oil analyst with PVM Associates.
Senate will not censor media – Saraki
President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki, on Friday assured online publishers and other social network operators that the senate would not censor the media.
This is contained in a statement by his Media Assistant, Bamikole Omishore, made available to the newsmen in Abuja.
The statement said that Saraki gave the assurance when the Executive Board of the Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) led by its president, Olufemi Awoyemi, visited him.

CUSTOMS GENERATES N1.2 BILLION ON RICE THROUGH THE LAND BORDERS
Nigeria Customs Service has recorded a total revenue of N1,178,720,376 on Rice Imports through the land borders in October and November 2015. During the same period, the total quantity of rice imported through the land borders stood at 17.596 Metric Tonnes.

Convict bags 25 years in jail for peddling cocaine
Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old man, Amaechi Igwe, to 25 years in jail for drug peddling.
Igwe was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on June 25, on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.
He had pleaded guilty to the charge.
Reps to investigate operations of NDLEA
The House of Representatives says it will investigate how the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), deals with seizures, disposal of drugs and prosecution of offenders from 2000 to date.
The House, on Wednesday in Abuja, also urged the NDLEA to halt further destruction of seized drugs and the impending auction of seized assets and properties of drug offenders pending the conclusion of the investigation.
This is sequel to a motion by Rep. Muhammad Soba (Kaduna-APC), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

Lagos bans open processions, carnivals, fireworks during yuletide
The Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, told residents to desist from holding open processions, carnivals and use of fireworks during the yuletide.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fatai Owoseni, told journalists that such gatherings should be done within enclosure of the venues.
He explained that the an emergency State Security Council Meeting decided to stop any form of procession due to intelligence reports on security.
The rich must pay tax to sustain N18, 000 minimum wage– Oshiomhole
Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo says he would rather continue to put pressure on the rich to pay their taxes regularly than reducing the salaries/wages of workers in the State.
Oshiomhole stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.
The governor, who restated his opposition to reduction of workers’ salaies as being contemplated by the Governors Forum, advised state governments to look inwards to boost their internally generated revenue to enable them maintain the N18,000 minimum wage.

Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, says James Faleke will be replaced as deputy governor-elect should the need arise.

Faleke, who was running mate to late Abubakar Audu in the Nov. 21 gubernatorial elections in Kogi, rejected the same position after the party replaced Audu with Alhaji Yayaha Bello, who was runner-up in the party’s primaries.
Faleke demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should declare him governor-elect, and chose Audu’s son, Mohammed, as his running mate. He threatened to court of INEC failed to do so, and had since gone to court.

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has called on the Senate not to deny Nigerians of their universally recognised right to freedom of expression.
