Money Laundering: We Received Over Five Petitions Against Ex-Gov Ohakim-Witness



 A prosecution witness has told Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, received over five petitions against former Imo State governor, Ohakim Ikedia, who was arraigned on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 on a three-count charge bordering on money laundering.

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force High Command has been drawn to several false posts on Facebook and other social media, accusing Police of shooting, maiming and even killing members of the Movement for the  Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who have taken their protests to streets, markets and other public places in some eastern states of Nigeria, infringing on the rights and freedom of innocent citizens who were ordinarily going about their lawful businesses.Despite provocation, the Police have maintained and managed the situation with high sense of responsibility and professionalism. 

HOW OPU GAMBIA CHAPTER WAS LAUNCHED






OPU Gambia chapter was officially launched in Banjul by the Convener of the organization, Otunba (Dr) Gani Adams who was received by the congregation of Yorubas and Igbo community members in Gamabia.

The warm and classy reception was led by President of Nigeria Union in Gambia, and Nigerian diplomatic corpse led by the Consular Officer, Mrs Ekanem present at Officers' Mess Kotu South, Banjul, Gambia.

FIGHT AGAINST BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM



The fight against Boko Haram terrorists is continuing to maintain its momentum with the discovery and destruction of terrorists’ camps, weapons and equipment, while the terrorists have been fleeing, and abandoning their bases. 

In 25 Task Force Brigade’s area of responsibility, the troops were able to clear Boko Haram terrorists camps at Nwalemer, Mallemiri and Bale. Similarly in Gwoza axis, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade have also destroyed terrorists camps in Tripkwopta and Gidan Gachi yesterday. The troops however encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) buried along their route of advance near Balazalla Dure that partially affected one of the leading vehicles. The troops also encountered an abandoned truck loaded with IEDs at Uvole village, which was blown up by them.

Also, with close air support by the Nigerian Air Force, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade advancing along Bitta and Damboa axis cleared Boko Haram terrorists’ camps at Modupe 1, 2 and 3 and in the process rescued 61 persons abducted earlier and held captives by the Boko Haram terrorists. The rescued persons were mainly women and children and have since been evacuated. The troops also recovered 2 Dane guns in the area after an encounter with the terrorists at Langaran Fulani and also killed 4 terrorists, arrested one.

The public are hereby reassured that the Nigerian Army  remains committed to its obligation to Nigerians. This is being demonstrated daily by the personal presence of the army leadership with the forward troops. It is reinforced by the manifest desire and zeal of the rank and file down to the last rifle man to discharge their responsibility for the restoration and maintenance of peace as well as the safeguarding of the safety and security of the citizenry in the North East.

Consequently, Nigerians are hereby advised to go about their legitimate duties and show understanding for security checks and procedures put in place to frustrate the evil intents of the terrorists. Nigerian Army troops  in all locations are in high spirits and doing their best to ensure expeditious defeat of the Boko Haram terrorists.

FACES @ THE LAUNCH OF OPU IN SENEGAL




The Senegales, Igbo Community, Hausa Community and the Niger/Delta eulogised Otunba (Dr) Gani Adams for his efforts in bringing Yorubas together.
Representatives of Nigeria Embassy in Senegal, Government of Senegal were ably represented as Oodua Progressive Union hit number 63 with the world.

Supreme Court Halts Saraki’s Trial by Tribunal


 



The Supreme Court Thursday ordered the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to stop forthwith, the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

At the commencement of the hearing on the appeal brought before the Court, counsel to the federal government, Mr. Rotimi Jacob, SAN, had given an undertaken that the Tribunal will stay action on the trial pending the determination of his appeal by the Supreme Court.

EFCC Arraigns Medical Director, 4 Others For N84.8m Scam



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 arraigned a former Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State, Dr Olufemi Abiodun Omotosho and four other suspects:  Adebayo Sunday Dada; Yusuf Saka Olarenwaju;  Ogunleye Samson Adeyemi and Azeez Dayo Kola before Justice M.I Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, on an eight count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.

Again Fulani Herdsmen Invade Kogi Communities, 22 Dead, Many More Displaced



Twenty two people have been reportedly killed in an early morning attack by an armed group alleged to be Fulani herdsmen on 9 different communities in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi.

The herdsmen who raided the communities were said to have carried out the attack in the early hours of Monday, November 9th, 2015, killing 22 and wounding several others, while hundreds are said to be missing.

400 Level LAUTECH Student Arrested For Stealing & Raping Female Students



Oyo State Police paraded a 400-Level male student of the department of Transport, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Kayode Oluwaseyi, for allegedly breaking into students’ hostels. Oyo Police Commissioner Leke Oyebade said the suspect also stole valuable property and sometimes raped his female victims.

The police boss said the suspect belonged to a notorious criminal gang aka, three Mopols. Oluwaseyi was paraded with two others, Adeyemi Taiwo and Adeyemi Kehinde, who were said to have been receiving some of the stolen items.

“They confessed that they have burgled several houses and carried out many robbery operations in Ogbomoso area.

“Items recovered from Oluwaseyi include one toy pistol, seven assorted laptops, 34 assorted phones, one Olympic camera, one LG plasma Television, three stabilisers, one GOTV decoder, Six different laptops, and a sum of N126, 500 cash.”

Money Laundering: Court Admits EFCC's Proof Against Prison Accountant, Esu-Nte



Justice E.S Chukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 admitted as evidence, a compact disc (CD) tendered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to the effect that the statements of Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte, an accountant with the Nigeria Prison Service and five others being prosecuted by the agency were voluntarily rendered.

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, today charged all staff of the Commission to brace up for fresh and greater challenges in the arduous task of combating corruption.

ECONOMIST ARTICLE ON LAGOS RECKLESS, SLANDEROUS- LASG



The Lagos State Government on Wednesday described the article published in the latest edition of the Economist Magazine as reckless and slanderous noting that the issues were ill-conceived.

Reacting on behalf of the State Government, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said the government deemed it fit to write a rebuttal to the article titled “Paralysed: Why Nigeria’s largest city is even less navigable than usual”, as it contained series of bias judgment in it.
